History

Olon is proud to have served the furniture and cabinet making industries for over 25 years. Our company has grown in that time, evolving to become one of North America's leading single-source manufacturers of quality component and custom solutions. The entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering commitment to our customers that was the cornerstone of our business in 1981 remains the foundation of everything we do today.

The following is a summary of the major milestones in our history:

Timeline

1981

Poly Plast Sales started in Brampton, ON. by Ed Almeida to supply PVC, polyester and wood veneer edge banding to customers in Southern Ontario.

1983

Poly Plast Edgebanding Inc. formed by Almeida and his business partner Richard Locke.

1985

Company began manufacturing profile wrapped moldings.

1987

Company added the manufacturing of miter fold drawers & continued expansion of all product lines across North America.

1989

Acquired Laminating Technology Inc. (formerly Pace Industries) in Northbrook IL. A producer of thermo fused decorative laminates, LTI was a synergistic addition to the product offering.

1994

Richard Locke restructured the company with the passing of Ed Almeida.

1995

Poly Plast’s Canadian administrative and manufacturing headquarters moved from Brampton, ON. to Georgetown ON.

1998

Acquired Riverside Labs in Geneva, IL. The company specialized in custom saturation of decorative papers and was a strategic supplier to LTI.

1998

OLON is formed - bringing Poly Plast, Laminating Technology and Riverside Labs under one corporate banner.

2000

Acquired Eurodrawer Inc., a manufacturer of miter fold drawers with manufacturing facilities in Mocksville, NC., Washington, IN., and White City, OR.

2002

Acquired Woodcraft Industries, a manufacturer of profile wrapped moldings based in Atlanta GA. Relocated the Northbrook IL. laminating facility to Geneva, IL. and opened the St. Charles, IL. distribution center.

2003

Consolidated Mocksville NC. drawer production to Washington, IN.

2004

Became an equity partner in Veneron Industries, a manufacturer of veneer products situated in Montreal, QC.

2005

Consolidated White City OR. drawer production to Washington IN. Washington facility awarded "Business of the Year " by Daviess County Chamber of Commerce.

2006

Consolidated profile wrapping in Atlanta, GA. to Georgetown, ON. Expanded manufacturing capacity in Georgetown with purchase of 46 Armstrong Ave.

2007

Upgraded manufacturing capability in US with the completion of new 112,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility in Washington IN.

Olon partnered with Huron Capital, a leading private equity firm based in Detroit, MI. Olon is now well positioned for accelerated organic and acquired growth in the US and Canada as Huron has committed significant additional capital to support such initiatives.   

2008

Don Hambly joined the organization as President & COO. Richard Locke remained as CEO with a larger focus on acquisitions.

Divested PVC, Melamine & ABS edgebanding product lines to Dura Edge Inc.

Acquired Creative Products, Jeffersonville, IN., a highly synergistic manufacturer and distributor of custom profile wrapped moldings.

2009

Consolidated manufacturing & distribution operations from 46 to 42 Armstrong in Georgetown and from St. Charles to Geneva IL.

Richard Locke retires from Olon following more than 25-years of leadership and dedicated service.  Don Hambly assumes the role of President and CEO.

The Washington, IN facility is awarded by the Indiana Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (INSHARP) in recognition, reward and ongoing support of the exemplary safety and health management systems in place within the organization
